Labels are for clothes

There are many factors go into the making of our identities: Race, class, gender, sex, sexual orientation, religion, etc. We are all different but all have one thing in common. We are all 100% human.

Ignorance Is In No Way Bliss

An article came out today that revealed that some fans are "disappointed" with the casting of The Hunger Games and more hauntingly their problems came from the fact that the characters Rue, Thresh and Cinna were played by black people.

This article, entitled "Racist Hunger Games Fans Are Very Disappointed" shows all of the tweets that "fans" had posted after seeing these characters portrayed on screen. These people were clearly unsettled by the fact that their favorite characters actually turned out to be black.

Tweets like this exploded on twitter:
"why does rue have to be black not gonna lie kinda ruined the movie"
"Cinna and Rue weren't supposed to be black. Why did the producer make all the good characters black? smh" According to her only good people are white
"Why is Rue a little black girl? #SticktothebookDUDE" She clearly doesn't know how to read
"Kk call me racist but when I found out she was black her death wasn't as sad" This one kills me and I will call you a racist.
There were even more tweets like these and some that were even worse. There was even one where someone called Amandla Stenberg (who plays Rue) the N Word.

The author of the article, Dodai Stewart, does a wonderful job of pointing out the ignorance these "dedicated" fans have. Here is exactly what Stewart had to say after showing everyone just how many people tweeted their racist feelings about the actors who were chosen.
"Here's what scares me…
All these… people… read the Hunger Games. Clearly, they all fell in love with and cared about Rue. Though what they really fell in love with was an image of Rue that they'd created in their minds. A girl that they knew they could love and adore and mourn at the thought of knowing that she's been brutally killed.
And then the casting is revealed (or they go see the movie) and they're shocked to see that Rue is black. Now… this is so much more than, "Oh, she's bigger than I thought". The reactions are all based on feelings of disgust.
These people are MAD that the girl that they cried over while reading the book was "some black girl" all along. So now they're angry. Wasted tears, wasted emotions. It's sad to think that had they known that she was black all along, there would have been [no] sorrow or sadness over her death.
There are MAJOR TIE-INS to these reactions and the injustices that we see around the world today. I don't even need to spell it out because I know that you're all a smart bunch.
This is a BIG problem. Think of all the murdered children. Think of all the missing children that get NO SCREEN TIME on the news.
It is NOT a coincidence.
THIS is the purpose of my blog… and to also point out shitty reading comprehension. LOL"

I 100% agree with Stewart and I can't help but wonder what type of world we live in. To make such a big fuss over someones skin color (who was portrayed that way in a book in the first place) shows that we have some serious problems. What annoys me is that these people feel no shame in posting these types of comments. Do they even see how ignorant and racist they're being? Obviously not. I just don't understand how people can think this way. It would be nice to live in a world where these things didn't happen but obviously that will not be accomplished easily. This especially won't happen if people continue to say things before they have really thought them through. This time I shake my head.

I know people say "Don't care about what other people think" but there are just some things like this that cannot be ignored. Racism should never be ignored. Pushing racism aside will not help it go away. It only adds fuel to the fire and it's only a matter of time before we all ignite.

Happy Hunger Games

So I just have to blog about The Hunger Games. I just have to.

It was phenomenal. It really was. The director stayed very true to the book which is lovely and all of the cast was perfect for their roles. They really did an amazing job bringing this wonderful book to life and I cannot wait to see it again. Even if you haven't read the books, you will totally love this movie. It's so action packed and visually stunning. It was literally have your heart pounding the entire time. I know mine was.

So go see The Hunger Games in theatres and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Oh and Josh Hutcherson is a total babe. The blonde hair really suits him. :D ow ow!

They casting director did an amazing job. Every single actor played their roles to a T. It was beautiful.

Remember: Keep Calm and Change the Game.

The Vision of Love

I am so excited to see that Kris Allen finally has new music. It was totally worth the wait. This song is a complete vision of love.

Wake up if you believe
Love is not a fading dream
Tell me I'm not the only one
Who feels this way right now

Lonely needs a friend
Ask him where he's been
You could be the Light that comes
And turns his world around

I don't wanna run, I don't wanna hide
When someone needs somebody
I don't wanna say, I don't got the time
When someone needs somebody
With a little faith and a little soul
We can't go wrong
We can't go wrong

When a heart breaks
And the world shakes
Will we stand for the vision of love?
When a tear falls
And the fear crawls
Will we stand for the vision of love?
Will we stand for the vision of love?

Singing
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Make-up hides her face
Cos she feels out of place
She cries
Come on someone tell this girl she's beautiful

We don't gotta run, we don't gotta hide
When someone needs somebody
We don't need to say, we don't got the time
When someone needs somebody
With a little faith and a little soul
We can't go wrong
We can't go wrong

When a heart breaks
And the world shakes
Will we stand for the vision of love?
When a tear falls
And the fear crawls
Will we stand for the vision of love?
Will we stand for the vision of love?

Singing
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
(C'mon)
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Let's stand up
(Whoa-oh-oh-oh)
(Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Let's stand
(Whoa-oh-oh-oh)
(Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Let's stand for the vision
Stand for the vision of love

Wake up
(Whoa-oh-oh-oh)
(Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Wake up
(Whoa-oh-oh-oh)
(Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Wake up if you believe

When a heart breaks
And the world shakes
Will we stand for the vision of love?
Will we stand for the vision of love?

You're Crazy But I Love It

I love finding new amazing voices. (thanks youtube) This is Max Schneider and he has a phenomenal voice. I am not even close to kidding. The first time I heard him sing I was literally blown away. He has a true gift and it is just plain beautiful.
So here's a little happiness for you. (Be sure to pick your jaw up off the ground after hearing him)

A cover of It Will Rain- Bruno Mars

Breakeven- The Script

One of Max's original songs called You Don't Know Me and his cute music video

This is another original song of his. It's got a lovely musical theater vibe to it.

I just can't believe how amazingly talented he is. It's crazy. I wish him all the luck in the world. He deserves it. (oh and I will not avoid the obvious by stating that he is crazy cute and he is only a year younger than me! wahoo!) Oh and I should also let ya'll know that he is on the Nickelodeon show How To Rock that just came out last month so he's already going places. yay!

He also has an EP on iTunes called First Encounters so yeah...GO BUY IT!! It's great! :D

Well I hope you enjoyed his lovely voice. Ta ta for now!  :)

A Pint Sized Prep-School Boy

Tumblr is so very useful. I spent the last hour starring at this one blog with all things Kurt, Blaine and Klaine. Then I came across this masterpiece of fan-fiction. It makes me all giggly inside. :)

Originally by cracktastic: reblogged by green-suspenders (Gotta give them their props)
I wonder how the conversation went when Kurt and Blaine finally decided to be “official”. I mean, after that kiss, I think it was as official as it needed to be for both of them. They were both all in. But I’m sure Kurt wondered for a while if he could call Blaine his boyfriend, if he should tell his dad, what he should tell his dad. I’m sure Blaine was still nervous the first time he asked Kurt to go out on a real date with him. I wonder who brought it up. I imagine some sort of adorabley awkward phone conversation…
“-and you should’ve heard Mercedes when I told her I had to miss shopping this weekend, she wouldn’t shut up, calling me twitter-pated and saying I’m always deserting her for my- my…… For you.”
“For your what?”
“Nothing, nothing, she was joking.”
“Kuuuuurt. Cmon. What did she call me? It’s gotta be good.”
“….fine. She called you my ‘pint-sized prep school boyfriend’. But I told her that she was outta line and that the stage just makes you look smaller, I mean, you’re basically my height, and she has no room to talk really-“
“Kurt! Kurt, its okay! Trust me, I’m no stranger to height jokes. I woulda never survived growing up with Cooper if I couldn’t take it. It’s fine.”
“Okay. Just, she really does like you, you know that, right?”
“Yes I do.”
“Good.”
“So….”
“So….what?”
“So am I?”
“Are you what?”
“Am I… your… you know… am I…….your boyfriend?”
“Oh.”
“If not I mean that’s totally okay, I don’t want to rush into things and. Nevermind. Sorry. I wasjustwondering-“
“Blaine.”
“Y-yes?”
“Breathe.”
“….k.”
“I….have a confession.”
“Oh god.”
“No, no, it’s not bad. Well, I don’t think, at least. It’s just…. I may have already told my dad that….you are.”
“That I am….”
“My boyfriend.”
“Oh.”
“Is… Is that oka-“
“Yes! Ohmygod yes! I mean…..okay. Yes. Kurt, I would be…. honored to be your boyfriend.”
“Well….good, Mr. Formal Gentleman. … You’re blushing aren’t you?”
“How can you always tell?”
“Magic. Hey…..Blaine? I’m blushing too.”
“….well at least we’re in this embarrassment together. Huh.”
“We are. In this together, I mean.”
“….Good.”
“I…have to go to bed now, probably… Classes tomorrow.”
“Okay. Hey kurt?”
“What?”
“Call me your boyfriend again.”
“….you are such a dork ohmygod. Okay. You’re… my boyfriend. Oh, wow. You’re my boyfriend.”
“….that sounds so good you have no idea. Okay, my turn. You’re….my boyfriend.”
“I am.”
I have a boyfriend and you are him.
“Oh good grief. Goodnight Blaine, you adorable pint sized schoolboy.”
“Goodnight. ….Boyfriend.”
“Oh my god.”

I Saw Your Face and I Felt Your Grace

I dreamt of a place
Where the stage rose above the stands
Where the boy and his smile
Let lose the butterflies
They flew from my stomach
all the way to my heart
And he knew this was where he belonged
with the wood underneath his feet
The seats in front of him
The music ringing from his throat
Reaching deep
Into the core
of the shining faces in front of him
reaching me
reaching him
I will be forever changed

So I had a dream about meeting Darren Criss last night. I met him in a theater where everyone was setting up for a show. His hair was perfectly curly and he was wearing my favorite color. He came over to me with that heartbreaking smile and put his arm around me. He showed me what it felt like to be in exactly the right place. He was home and it was perfect. (I only hope that one day I can find a place to call my own and have that same feeling I saw him get. I know it was only a dream but something has never felt so real)

Oh I never knew just how good it could feel to be stood by the ocean. Felt like the first time that I saw your face and I felt your grace. I'd be lost without you, I'd be lost without you.

18 Years, 18 Years

The last few years for been crazy for this young kid. A kid I have grown to love unconditionally. He has done so much and grown up in such a short amount of time. He lives the life and makes the kind of money suckers like me can only dream of. He has it all and I love him.

And to think he just turned18 years old today. (Where was I at 18? Most likely suffering from Senioritis...)

These videos show just how much Justin has grown over the last 2 years. JB has changed so much. Not just in height, appearance, hair style, voice (gosh that voice....sigh) but over all he has become so grown up but he still knows who he is and where he came from and he always appreciates that. I am so very proud of him. <3
