All These Little Things

....that annoy me.

So One Direction's new album Take Me Home came out today in the US and I have, dare I say it, a problem.

I just started listening to their album this morning when I got it and for the most part I love it. I mean, a lot. I really think their sound is incredible and they even gave Niall and Louis more chances to sing. Gasp! But there is one thing that bothers me and that's their song "Little Things"

I think it sounds beautiful, their voices are angelic and they are beyond beautiful singing in the music video (I really like the fact that they have the video take place in the studio. You don't see that too often these days) And I love a good slow jam just as much as the next person who loves a good slow jam. But what annoys me is the lyrics.

Basically the song is about all the "little things" that their girlfriend doesn't like about herself (her entire body pretty much and everything that goes along with it) and of course it happens to be those "little things" that are, in fact, the reasons why the boys (meaning One Direction as separate people) are in love with her. It just gets me thinking about the idea that men have to constantly reassure women of their appeal otherwise they will only feel bad about themselves. We live in a society where women are looked down upon if they do not live up the perfect ideal of beauty, which is in fact UNATTAINABLE (just in case you were wondering). It just annoys me that these things that the girl hates about herself are the things that the boy loves and then suddenly that makes it okay for her to love herself. I think this song would have made better sense or sent a better message if the "little things" he loved about her were her personality or something that makes the relationship really worth while.

I don't know. Maybe I'm becoming a feminist. And maybe that's okay.

But that's my rant for the day. Don't let this deter you from buying their amazing album which you should really do. :D Just do it.
